The impact of the Payment Services Directive will be felt most strongly in Europe, of course, as it originated there, but PSD2 will have ramifications globally, especially in the area of authentication. This presentation provides a brief overview of the process which resulted in PSD's rules, then examines the three elements associated with the Strong Customer Authentication provision, or SCA. Four types of exemptions are detailed next, followed by a summary of exclusions from SCA and two SCA options anticipated in the future. The slides conclude with a look at the authentication flow tied to EMV 3DS and expected results outside Europe once PSD2 takes full effect.
