As computers have become exponentially more powerful and dramatically cheaper, businesses have been able to automate and scale tasks that once required teams of workers to complete. For eCommerce retailers, this has meant using systems like machine learning in place of risk investigators. This presentation argues that not everything can or should be automated and examines three areas in which people can make a profound difference in risk management; namely manual review, account compromises/account takeovers, and escalations. Several anecdotes are included to help illustrate the importance of people in risk processes.
