Maintain Your CPFPP Certification and Advance Your Expertise
As the payments ecosystem evolves and fraud challenges grow more complex, Certified Payments and Fraud Prevention Professionals (CPFPPs) must stay ahead of emerging trends through continuous learning.
Every three years, CPFPPs are required to recertify by either:
- Retaking the CPFPP exam, or
- Earning 60 continuing education credits within three years of certification.
- At least 15 credits must be earned through MRC programs.
How to Earn Credits
The MRC offers a variety of ways to earn continuing education credits—from in-person conferences and virtual events to online courses and volunteer opportunities.

CPFPP-certified speakers receive priority consideration for MRC speaking opportunities and can earn 3 continuing education credits for every 1 hour of speaking time for first-time presentations. Requirements
When applying for recertification based on earned credits, please review the following requirements:
- One credit equals one continuing education hour (CPE, CE, etc.) or one hour of approved educational activity.
- Certificants must earn 60 credits within each three-year recertification cycle, with at least 15 credits earned through MRC programs.
- Non-credit activities may be accepted on a case-by-case basis through self-attestation
- All credits must relate directly to the role of a payments and fraud prevention professional.
- Credits should be distributed throughout the three-year recertification cycle.
- Renewal applications and activity logs must be submitted no later than 30 days before the end of the recertification cycle.
- Certificants are responsible for maintaining records of earned credits in the MRC Certification Portal.
Recertification Options
Upon earning the CPFPP credential, certification remains valid for three years from the date the CPFPP credential was awarded (one recertification cycle). Certificants can recertify by retaking the exam or by earning and reporting continuing education credits. Credits should be submitted for approval in the MRC Certification Portal.
Recertification With Credits
The credits encompass a broad spectrum of activities that the MRC believes reflect continual learning opportunities. These activities validate the professional’s knowledge and strengthen the Certified Payments and Fraud Prevention Professional by reinforcing essential skills and developing new ones.
