Who We Are
The Go-To Global Community for eCommerce Payments, and Fraud Prevention
MRC is a global non-profit membership organization for payments and fraud prevention professionals, founded in 2000. Our purpose is to keep members connected, informed, and empowered to influence and transform the future of the industry. Guided by four core pillars, we provide timely insights, practical resources, and meaningful opportunities that drive growth and innovation. With established communities across the US, Europe, APAC, and LATAM, we continue to expand our global reach and strengthen the MRC network worldwide.

One of the goals of the Merchant Risk Council is to serve as an educational resource for payments and fraud prevention professionals of all levels. Our eLearning courses help make that possible on a global scale.

With the ever-evolving nature of the payments industry, new regulations, standards, and policies continue to change and become more complex. Advocating for our members is of utmost importance to us, and it has proven to benefit the payments industry across the board.
Our Story
It all started in 2000, shortly after the Internet boom, when merchants came together to discuss online fraud problems never experienced before. The Merchant Risk Council began as a passion project built by a team of dedicated volunteers, all working day jobs and creating the MRC on nights and weekends.
As the eCommerce market continued to evolve, so did fraud. More and more merchants turned to the MRC for ways to learn, share information, and network with other professionals. As we grew, we welcomed solution providers, issuers, law enforcement, card brands, and ancillary companies to work together in the fight against fraud.
As a nonprofit 501(c)6 organization, the MRC encompasses a membership network of over 750 companies, including 525+ merchants focused on fraud prevention, payment optimization, and risk management. We operate in the US and Europe and are expanding our presence to other regions.
