ABECS Brazil 3DS Mandate

The Brazilian Association for Credit Cards and Services Companies (ABECS) has proposed a 3DSecure mandate effective February 2025. Brazil’s lack of cross-border acquiring and its complex payment arrangements mean that both domestic and international merchants must use local acquirers who must follow ABECS rules.

The MRC has prepared a position statement based on feedback from Brazilian merchants.You can find this statement, along with the ABECS proposal in English and Portuguese. Any merchant operating in Brazil should be aware of the proposals and the MRC position which also sets out the potential impact of these requirements on merchants.
