RBA Interchange Surcharging
RBA Interchange Surcharging Review
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has released a consultation paper on interchange and related fees, focusing on transparency, pricing controls, and broader concerns in the payments sector. Whilst much of this is positioned in the context of surcharging, a priority issue in Australia, the RBA's stance on interchange and card scheme fees could influence other regulators globally.
The RBA is seeking feedback from merchants, including merchants with experience in countries across the globe for feedback. Having met with the RBA, they are seeking practical approaches to facilitate efficient, low-cost payments.
Feedback is due to RBA by December 3, so a prompt review is necessary to identify any relevant opportunities. As such please review the paper here and provide any feedback/practical suggestions to peter.bayley@merchantriskcouncil.org by close of play 21 November 2024.
