AI is now the dominant force shaping online traffic, and most businesses aren’t ready. DataDome’s 2025 Global Bot Security Report, an analysis of 16,900+ websites across 22 industries, reveals how unprepared organizations remain in the face of AI-driven automation. Only 2.8% of websites were fully protected in 2025, down from 8.4% last year, while more than 61% failed to detect even the simplest bots. At the same time, LLM crawler traffic surged 4X, with nearly 1.7B OpenAI requests detected in August alone. Attackers are combining simple bots with agentic AI that mimics human behavior, spawns synthetic browsers, and adapts in real time, leaving static defenses collapsing under the complexity. The takeaway: if businesses can’t stop simple bots, they’re already unprepared for AI-powered threats. Security must now operate at AI speed, with adaptive, intent-based protection that can distinguish between benign and malicious AI traffic in real time.
