In spring 2020, the MRC formally requested that the European Banking Authority and the European Commission again delay the deadline for compliance of the Strong Customer Authentication requirements in the European Union. In light of the novel coronavirus and the challenges COVID-19 dealt the industry, the December 31, 2020 deadline for SCA enforcement is not seen as achievable by both merchants and issuers.

This webinar, which is viewable by both non-members and MRC members, discusses testing and debugging strategies for EMV 3D Secure (previously known as 3DS 2.X), best practices around its implementation, and lessons learned. Microsoft, Amazon, and Google also share results demonstrating which issuer countries have abnormally high abandonment rates. This data from MRC merchant members strongly suggests if the compliance date is not delayed beyond December 31, 2020, a large portion of consumers will be unable to complete online purchases at a time when eCommerce has never been more important in consumers' daily lives.
