Scaling payments, especially millions of volume across continents looks impressive from the outside, but behind the scenes, it’s messy.
As the lead for Global Payments Expansion at Bolt, a leading ride-hailing marketplace platform in Europe, I’ve launched infrastructure in 27+ markets across EMEA, APAC, and North America. And now I’m focused on optimising what we built: consolidating Payment Service Providers, moving to direct card schemes, and preparing for regulatory shifts like PSD3.
That includes major structural shifts, like Bolt's recent move to partner with Airwallex to fully hand over payments operations in Canada to meet new licensing requirements from the Bank of Canada.
This talk is the unfiltered version of what it really takes to go global:
Balancing the triangle of "Cost vs. Speed vs. Compliance": and what happens when you get it wrong.
Managing failure rates, FX costs, and fragmented PSP setups at scale
Rebuilding a patchwork stack into something resilient and futureproofIt’s a candid playbook of what worked, what broke, and what I wish I’d known before starting.
