A merchant's payments engine is an asset allowing for channel integration and control of the customer experience by supporting business growth, reducing expenses, offering scalability, and enabling data collection for analytics. These engines have flexible and scalable architecture so that as technology changes or the business grows, the merchant is never captive to functional, technological, or economic limitations.

This session looks at payment function challenges and how functional layers have evolved, followed by an introduction to the concept of a payment orchestration layer. Core attributes and benefits are detailed next, followed by methods to bolster transaction acceptance and a diagram of what a payment orchestration layer can look like.
